"Battle of the Beast" Bull Riding & Barrel Racing

The cowboys will face the bulls, when professional bull riding returns for one night only! The Battle of the Beast bull riding will consist of 25 professional International Bull Rider Association (IBR) riders competing to ride some of the toughest bulls in the world of rodeo, Cowgirls Barrel Racing and more! 1st Annual Jousting Tournament

Jousting, Maryland's Official State Sport will be highlighted when The Amateur Jousting Club of Maryland hosts the 1st Annual Jousting Tournament at the Maryland State Fair. Competitors will be placed in catagories based on skill and will collect rings, hanging from arches, with lance in hand.

Located at the south end of the Midway closest to the Farm & Garden building. Maryland State fairgoers will go hog wild when pig stars compete in the Swifty Swine Racing and Swimming Pig Show. Billed as "America’s cleanest and fastest pig races," the Swifty Swine Show is fast paced and action packed with three-heat races and one performance by Swifty the Swimming Pig. In addition, fairgoers will be able to stick their noses up after receiving a fun and informative education from P.U. (Piggie University).

Masters of the Chainsaw is a limited group of the nation’s top professional chainsaw sculptors. At a typical show, from behind protective netting, onlookers will observe an original and captivating high-energy performance. With chain saw roaring and chips flying, our carvers' precision and skill quickly transforms a three-foot tall log into a true work of art. Nearly every show will result with a carving being-produced from start to finish. The public is also invited to participate in two auctions where the carvings will be sold to benefit the Maryland State Fair Scholarship Fund. The auctions will be held on Wednesday, September 1st and Monday, September 6th beginning at 4pm in the State Fair Park.
Birthing Center

Located in the Cow Palace.
The Birthing Center will provide opportunities for fairgoers to witness the miracle of birth of calves, litters of piglets and hatching chicks. In addition, live video cameras coupled with big screen televisions will be added to ensure that everyone has a good view. University of Maryland agriculture students along with the Maryland State Fair Veterinarian will be with the animals at all times to oversee, assist with the deliveries and narrate the birth events that occur during Fair hours. Video presentations will also be available when live births are not taking place.
Agricultural Fair Tours

The Agricultural Fair Tours hosted daily by The University of Maryland in cooperation with the Maryland State Fair will provide factual and fun answers to fairgoers' questions about all aspects of agriculture. If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between a heifer and a steer or a goat and a sheep, but were too afraid to ask, fear not. The University of Maryland agriculture professors and students, dressed in red coveralls, will lead fairgoers through the Maryland State Fair barns and introduce them to exhibitors who will answer specific questions regarding their animals or exhibits. The tours will proceed through The Cow Palace, The Milking Parlor, The Swine Barn, The Sheep & Goat Barn, The Horse Show Ring and The Rabbits and Poultry Building.

Maryland Guernsey Youth Association will teach fairgoers how to hand milk cows during their Guernsey Milk Clinic fundraiser. The Guernsey Milk Clinic will provide educational information about Maryland’s dairy industry and this special breed of dairy cows. And, for a small donation, interested fairgoers can take a lesson and try their hand at milking a cow. All participants will learn a new skill and will receive a special treat.
US Navy Band
