WELCOME TO THE MARYLAND STATE FAIR HOME ARTS DEPARTMENT!
I want to extend a warm welcome to you and invite you to take part in the 128th Maryland State Fair. We have something for everyone this year in the Home Arts Department, from special contests to great demonstrations.
Come enjoy the friendly competition and see what your talented neighbors have exhibited. For your convenience you should pre-enter by mail or on the internet at www.marylandstatefair.com, although we will be more than happy to accept walk-ins. There are many changes this year, so please read everything carefully.
Remember, Section J, Flowers has been moved to the Farm & Garden building. So to enter your flowers you will have to go the Farm & Garden Department.

GENERAL RULES
1. Entry times for the Home Arts Sections are as follows:
Sections A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, K, N

2. No admission passes are furnished. Exhibitors admitted without charge during entry times. Others pay regular admission.
3. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor and entered in his/her name. Only 1 entry per class is accepted from any one exhibitor.
4. No entry will be accepted unless there is a specific class for it in the premium list.
5. All entries must be fresh, clean and conform to size or content specifications.
6. All entries must have been completed since August 2009, except as noted.
7. Home Arts entries will be RELEASED Tuesday, September 7th, 2010, 9AM to 7PM. Unclaimed exhibits become MSF property after September 30th.
8. All prize money and ribbons must be picked up with exhibits when released. Decisions of the judges are final. At their discretion the judges may open and examine any entry and refuse to consider any entry for a prize.
9. Only residents of Maryland and adjoining states are eligible to enter.
10. A Fair President and an Anna Troyer ribbon will be awarded in each section. Honorable Mention ribbons do not receive prize money, but are awarded when the judges feel that an entry deserves special notice.
11. 2009 Special Award winners will not be eligible to receive a Special Award this year.
12. For your convenience, you should pre-enter by mail or Internet, although walk-ins will be accepted.

SPECIAL RULES
PASSES: Exhibitor Passes will not be issued because there are no entry fees.
ENTER BEFORE TBA: Entry Forms can be found online and mailed to: Superintendent, Farm & Garden Department, P.O. Box 188, Timonium, MD 21094-0188. Or go to www.marylandstatefair.com, click on Competition and enter your Farm & Garden entries online.

COMPUTER ENTRY TAG: For each exhibit you have pre-entered, a Computer Entry Tag will be ready for you when you arrive with your exhibits.
JUDGING: Exhibits in Sections A, B, C, D, F, and G will be judged on TBA. Sections H and J will be judged according to their individual arrival times. Section E will be judged on TBA.
JUDGES DECISION: The judges’ decisions are final. Judges have the right to reject any exhibit if deemed not worthy of an award, and judges also have the right to award a lower prize at their discretion.
TIES: In the event of a tie, each exhibitor involved will be awarded an appropriate ribbon. The exhibitors concerned will share the amount of money involved equally.
RIBBONS: Ribbons awarded to exhibits must be picked up at the time exhibits are released. Ribbons for exhibits donated to the "soup kitchen" will be mailed to the exhibitors.
EXHIBITS RELEASED: Exhibits will be released on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010, from 9AM to 7PM. Exhibitors must present the "Claim Check" from their computer entry tag to claim exhibits. All unclaimed exhibits become property of the Maryland State Fair.
EARLY REMOVAL: Exhibits removed before the official release time will result in forfeiture of ribbons and premiums.

Rules
1. The General Rules and Regulations also apply to this department.
2. At the discretion of the Division Superintendent, classes may be combined, divided or canceled.
3. Permanent stalls with doors are provided and are available on a first come first serve basis unless otherwise notified.
4. Entry fee is $5.00 per class unless otherwise stated.
5. Exhibitors must clean out their stalls and place the manure in designated areas.
6. No bedding material other than straw may be used.
7. Post entries will be accepted in group classes only.
8. In all broodmare classes, mares must have produced a foal in 2010 or show satisfactory certificate they have been bred in 2009.
9. All animals over nine months of age must have a certificate indicating a negative Coggins Test (Equine Infectious Anemia) made within 12 months prior to show day. Photocopy stamped by the appropriate animal health official of the respective State will be accepted in lieu of the original certificate.
10. Foals may accompany their dams in the ring but must be led.
11. Age will be considered in all foal classes.
12. Animals entered in group classes must be entered in an individual class.
13. All purebred animals must be registered in the name of the exhibitor and papers must be available if requested.
14. Entries will be accepted on a first come first taken basis and may be limited to available stall space.
