The Maryland State Fair offers opportunities for people of all ages to enter their most prized items, whatever they may be. There are two main areas (4-H/FFA and OPEN CLASS) in which you can participate in the Maryland State Fair.
First, you can be a 4-H or FFA member enrolled in the 4-H or FFA program. Maryland 4-H Youth Development offers Clover Programs for youth ages 5-7 and 4-H Club programs for youth ages 8-18 (Age 18 as of January 1 of the current year). 4-H is in each Maryland county and Baltimore City, as well as Europe and Korea through a partnership with the CSREES/USDA Army and Air Force. The purpose of 4-H and FFA is to teach children and youth important life skills, as well as public speaking, leadership, etc. Contact your local 4-H Offices or high shool agriculture teacher for names of clubs and leaders near you. Second, anyone and everyone can enter in the OPEN CLASS portion of the Maryland State Fair. There is the Farm & Garden Department, which is home to vegetables, fruit, farm crops, wine, honey and flowers. There is the Home Arts Department, which is home to crafts, baking, sewing, photography, etc. There is the Livestock Department, which is home to large animals such as dairy, beef, sheep, etc. Finally, there is Horses, which includes all types of horses.
